Cohiba Robustos Review

The Cohiba Robusto is one of the original six cigars from the Línea Clásica range. When released this range was made available for diplomatic use only.

From 1982 three sizes were offered to the public: The Lanceros, Coronas Especiales and Panetelas. The infamous Esplendidos, the Robustos and Exquisitos were also made publicly available in 1989. The Cohiba Robustos is still one of the most sought after Cuban cigars on the market and with good reason. It presents beautifully with its medium brown oily wrapper and its construction is second to none. I cut the head with my CC cutter and lit up using my new Vector Tri Pump butane table lighter.

Our seemingly endless summer served up another balmy night and with the weather warm looked forward to pairing my Cohiba Robustos with a Cascade Green lager; a new Tasmanian, preservative free, low carb beer. Once lit this cigar burned perfectly offering a sensational palate of great Cuban tobacco tastes including cedar, pepper and spice. The flavours intensify during the smoke yet remain consistent, smooth and creamy with no sign of bitterness. This cigar also offered a beautiful white, solid ash during the life of the cigar. To be honest I didn’t want this cigar to end! I’d truely forgotten why I had loved this cigar so much in the past. Wow.. what a great cigar!

This cigar is the best of all nine Cuban robustos and the essence of what a Cuban cigar should be. If you haven’t tried one you should as it’s the most complex of all robustos and stands out due to it’s fabulous strength and character. I rate this robusto in my top three of all Habanos cigars and score this cigar a mighty 9/10!

As a general rule of thumb you can check the authenticity of a Cohiba Robustos, or any Cohiba cigar for that matter, by studying the gold lettering for the word ‘Cohiba’ on the cigar band. Cohiba’s newest band, released in 2003, now features slightly raised gold lettering.
