The Punch Super Robustos is a regional edition originally released by Habanos in 2006. This new vitola from this prestigious brand is exclusively handmade for Habanos lovers in Asia Pacific markets only. The Punch Super Robustos are issued as a limited release of 2140 numbered cases of both 25 and 50 cabinet boxes. A beautiful hand rolled cigar with a rich, oily wrapper with the unique limited double band confirming; Exclusivo Asia Pacifico. The construction of this cigar is absolutely perfect and the drink accompanying this gorgeous vitola for the review was a Heineken Draught served from the 5 litre mini keg.

 

Cold the cigars initial aroma includes a hint of ammonia which can be attributed to the young age of the cigar. I cut the foot with my CC cutter and lit up using my Vector Tri Pump triple jet lighter. The weather was a little cold and windy outside on the deck but the cigar lit easily and burnt well from the outset. Wonderful earthy flavours and typical Punch creaminess were apparent during the first third with this Super Robustos best classified as medium to full bodied. During the second third flavours remained consistent but without the hint of ammonia. For the final third the earthy and creamy flavours intensified with absolutely no sign of bitterness. The cigar did burn a little unevenly at times and the ash failed to cling but this too can be put down to the youthfulness of the cigar. There’s no doubt this cigar has plenty of potential and three to five years will bring out its greatness and present us with a classic!

The Punch Super Robustos is that good I may need to re-evaluate my top 5 of current Habanos cigars! My only regret was I didn’t enjoy it as much as I possibly could have due to a lingering cold. With that said this vitola is a gem and bearing in mind its potential scores a 9/10! I may need to smoke another Punch Super Robustos this weekend for verification!
